Mr. Espenschied's 3rd Grade

Mr. Espenschied

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year in 3rd grade! I hope you had a wonderful summer. I am excited that your child is in my class this year. My mission and goal is to help your child become or continue to be a successful learner and eventually productive citizen of the world. Third grade is a transition from primary grades to intermediate grades. Your child will have more expected from them than previously. It is a year when there will be less emphasis on children learning to read and more emphasis on children reading to learn. I will do my best to build their confidence and self esteem.
Their homework will mostly be to review the things that we do in class during the week. There will be a story to read each week, math skills to practice, spelling words to study, and notes for Science and Social Studies to review.
An assignment sheet will be given to you each week to write assignments down and take home as a reminder. You will also be given a folder to take things home and bring things back to school. You should empty it out each night so your parents can see what you have been doing.
We have 3 basic school wide rules to follow this year: 1. Be Safe, 2. Be Respectful, and 3. Be Responsible. We will be having a boot camp on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning this week to practice those rules so each student will know what’s expected of them.

I am confident that we will have a great and successful year with your help and support.
